Draw Me In The Fountain Of Youth.
Hardcover.
This body of work contains several drawings, a different take on self portraits, photographs documenting sculptures and items turned to Art Objects by gregory, Texas’s Last Southern Belle. The selected and curated collection of 96 artworks contain a certain something that tries to capture youth and the rebellious spirit. gregory, Texas’s Last Southern Belle, will not willing reveal his real age because he says “that is beyond passé”…but he does admit that he always has a feeling of perpetual adolescent. “I feel like I’m always 14, and then, I look into the mirror” he says. Perhaps it’s his mental illnesses? Or getting a job at 12 and growing up fast? He doesn’t think too much about his past, He lives for the future. A contradiction in his art process may be that he creates a drawing, puts it away, then looks at it again maybe a year later and changes his opinion on the artwork or sees something in it that was overlooked to use for new drawings. Without words, simply in the order of these artworks to be viewed, you get to see a certain side of the Artist he keeps hidden under stoic masculinity, black eye shadow and eyeliner, or dark black sunglasses-which he says is the male equivalent to a burqa, but for men. This book tries to capture youth in a way, and to those who obtain a copy of the book-immortalize the artist’s idea of a fountain of youth.
