Gregory James Bustillo, Texas's Last Southern Belle's Artworks. Series 4.
(How to explain & insult perfectly)
In this body of work you will get to see a different side of the Artist through his work. Sophisticated? Vulgar? He is just being honest. And most importantly, he is being himself. Gregory owes so much to his friend Tristian who has a way with words, and Tristian gave Gregory the confidence to stand tall, even when Gregory’s all alone and everyone’s against him and his ideas.
There is a variety of media documented in this book, also included are photographs of a selection from his private collection. A theme of identity and masculinity can be seen throughout this book. Also experimentation with color, abstraction, and expressionism.
In his “Private Collection”, these artworks on index cards were not planned, they just manifested. Maybe once a day he would make a mark or a few marks on an index card, sometimes using color. Then walk away. The next day or more, he would repeat the process. Once they became intriguing to him, he stored them away, and started again with a new index card.
The photographs of Gregory, scenery, metal jewelry he created, and sculptures try to say something Gregory believes in—The worst thing in life is serious people. Be serious, but nobody has to know about it.
